Answer the Call...
A pilgrimage is a ritual that belongs to no single religious or
cultural tradition. One simply must answer the call to go, and
when they are moving through the environment at a natural
pace that awakens the senses, they perceive and connect to the
environment as it is.
Witness this Sacred Place in Peril
Burns Bog is a very important place. Sometimes called the “lungs
of the Lower Mainland”, not only does the bog sequester carbon
emissions that cause climate destabilization but the bog cleans our
air and water, provides habitat for many species, and plays an
integral role in our local ecosystem.
Burns Bog is internationally listed as an endangered bog
because of the proposed South Fraser Perimeter Road (SFPR)
truckway, impacting the entire region. The SFPR is part of the
ecologically and financially inapproprite Gateway mega-project,
which also includes expanding ports and a taxpayer bailout of
an unplanned Port Mann mega-bridge. Join with your friends
and neighbours on this interfaith pilgrimage to Burns Bog.
If you’re driving to the pilgrimage, take Hwy 91 to the Annacis
Island exit. Go east on Cliveden and turn right on Chester. Go
one block to Quizno’s on your right: 640 Chester Rd. (See map)
Please be there by 2 PM. Restrooms available on Annacis
Island. Park on the street
or in visitors’ parking
of businesses closed on
Sunday.
At about 3:15 we will meet
those who cannot walk
across the bridge, in the
parking lot of the Great
Pacific Forum, 10388
Nordel Court.
At about 3:30 we will walk
together into the Delta
Nature Reserve for guest
speakers and music.
Buses will be leaving from Vancouver or
you can simply meet us on Annacis Island
to walk across the Alex Fraser Bridge to
this sacred site.
